Exploring the Workday Marketplace and Built on Workday Applications
You may have heard about the Workday Marketplace and the concept of Built on Workday applications, announced at last year’s Workday Devcon. But what do these innovations mean for customers? How can you access and navigate the growing ecosystem of Workday solutions and integrations?
In this blog, we will break down:
What the Workday Marketplace is
What is available on the Marketplace
What Built on Workday means
How to evaluate the best solutions for your use case
Understanding the Workday Marketplace
The Workday Marketplace is similar to platforms like the Salesforce AppExchange, AWS Marketplace, or the App Store. It serves as a central hub where you can find partner-hosted applications designed to integrate seamlessly with your Workday instance. These apps are vetted and approved by Workday, ensuring they meet quality and compatibility standards.
It’s important to note that while the Marketplace features apps developed by Workday Partners, other vetted and proven applications may still be available outside the Marketplace. These non-Marketplace solutions could also be from Workday-certified partners but may not have completed Workday’s comprehensive review process. If you’re considering an application not listed on the Marketplace, it’s always a good idea to ask the provider why it’s not listed and confirm its compatibility with Workday.
The Marketplace simplifies the process of discovering, evaluating, and purchasing partner applications. You can directly connect with Workday Innovation Partners to acquire solutions that enhance your Workday tenant and streamline business processes.
What Is Built on Workday?
Built on Workday is a new offering that allows customers without a Workday Extend subscription to benefit from apps developed using Workday Extend. These applications are created by partners within the Workday ecosystem and made available for purchase through the Marketplace.
Previously, only customers subscribed to Workday Extend could leverage apps built on this platform. Now, with the introduction of Built on Workday, these solutions are accessible to a broader audience, enabling more customers to benefit from innovative tools without needing a direct Extend subscription.
Does Stormloop Have a Built on Workday Application?
Yes—we do! Stormloop’s first Marketplace application, Multi-Tenant Security Audit Central, officially launched last week.
This application is designed to enhance compliance, safeguard data privacy, and maintain security integrity across all Workday tenants—including sandbox, implementation, and preview environments that are subject to refresh.
By capturing and preserving security history and role assignments, Multi-Tenant Security Audit Central ensures continued visibility and audit readiness, even after a tenant is refreshed.

A Complement to Traditional Workday Solutions
The Workday Marketplace and Built on Workday are valuable additions to the Workday ecosystem, offering new ways to discover and implement solutions. However, they do not replace traditional methods of finding and building integrations.
Workday Community: A platform where users can share ideas and explore solutions used by others to address similar challenges.
Workday Studio and Orchestration: Tools for creating custom integrations between Workday and external systems.
Partner Engagement: Partners continue to play a crucial role in designing bespoke integrations and applications.
The Marketplace and Built on Workday expand the range of options available, meeting customers where they are in their journey and providing flexible solutions tailored to their needs.
Finding the Right Solution for Your Needs
With so many options, how do you decide which solution is best for your use case? Here are a few steps to guide your decision:
Define Your Requirements: Understand the specific business challenge you’re trying to solve.
Explore the Marketplace: Browse the available apps and evaluate their features, reviews, and compatibility.
Engage with Partners: Reach out to Workday Innovation Partners for demos or additional information.
Verify compatibility: Review the technical details on the marketplace listing to review application requirements and determine if the app is compatible with your functional areas.
Consider Long-Term Value: Assess how the solution aligns with your organization’s strategic goals and scalability needs.
The Workday Marketplace and Built on Workday program mark an exciting evolution in how customers can enhance their Workday experience. By offering new pathways to access partner solutions, Workday continues to expand its ecosystem, empowering businesses to innovate and grow.
Whether you’re leveraging the Marketplace, traditional tools, or engaging directly with partners, Workday’s ecosystem provides the flexibility and support needed to meet your unique requirements.
